The new opentop bus in Alcudia: Alcudia Xperience bus

You might have seen the brand new open top bus going around the resort of Alcudia. In fact you can’t miss it! Or I should say them, because  it’s not just one open top bus but rather a mini fleet, smartly decorated with Alcudia Xperience written across the side.

I went on this bus last week and I would like to share my experience with our readers, because I think it’s a great excursion and is very good value for money, including tour in open top bus with guide, guided walk around Alcudia Old Town and free time in the old town before returning to the hotels.

Plus it goes every day twice a day.

My Suggestions for the Alcudia Xperience Bus:

Who it’s for:

Well it is for everybody basically. As the whole tour only takes four hours, those with young children needn’t worry about them getting bored or restless. Couples and families love it, for people who are interested in culture, it is a unique way to visit Alcudia, and for anybody who needs to take care of their pocket, it is an affordable and fun tour.

When to do the tour:

Personally I enjoyed the afternoon tour when the old town was not too busy and it was nice to sit and relax in one of the patio bars in the pretty main square with a refreshing beer after the guided walk.

The tour runs every day throughout the summer from the resorts of Alcudia, Can Picafort and Puerto Pollensa.

Those who like to barter should remember that in Alcudia Old Town, market day is every Tuesday and Sunday morning and it is possible to combine the tour with a visit to the market.

Why we like it:

At just 17€ per person this tour is great value as not only does it give you a ride around the resort on a sleek open top bus but it also includes a guided visit to the old town – bargain!

We also love it because it is a great way to suss out the place where you are staying and familiarise yourself with your surroundings – how many times have you been on holiday and have got lost on the first day? Well, in Alcudia this need be no more.

When the bus arrives at the old town after the open top sightseeing tour, it drops you off at Alcudia’s bull ring. This little gem of history is fascinating to visit and you can really get a feel for Spain as you step into the bull ring and imagine being an undefeated matador!

The people who look after Alcudia’s bull ring will charge you 2€ to go inside. You can see the stadium itself, climb up the tiers to peer over the edge at the bulls and enjoy the amazing view of Puerto Pollensa, and, after that they will give you a free drink!

How to get the most out of Alcudia Xperience Bus

When the open top bus comes to pick you up, all you have to do is climb aboard, take your seat and relax. From up there you have the perfect views of everything. The melodic voice of the guide who will point out all the places of interest along the way will make the tour all the more interesting.

You will drive through the resort, into the port and actually down the marina and then to Aucanada. Along the way there are many photo opportunities, especially in the port where there are some fantastic boats and yachts, and from Aucanada, from where you can see the whole of the bay of alcudia.

When you reach Alcudia Old Town, the tour continues to be just as relaxed and enjoyable as the bus part. Now the guide will take you through the old town’s tiny streets, where you can feel the real Mallorcan atmosphere and soak in the typical sights and smells as well as learning about the town’s rich history and discovering the architecture.

Afterwards you will have free time. I visited the bull ring, and loved it, as I have mentioned above and I also walked up the steps onto the 14th century walls where the views are fantastic. I walked as far as possible on the walls and enjoyed great views of Pollensa bay and Alcudia Old Town. There was also time for a rest at one of the bars in the square, which really made me feel like I was on my holidays as I lazily watched the world go by.
