One week in Alcudia

There are so many things to do in and around Alcudia that you’ll have a hard job fitting them all into a week. Here we are going to help you by highlighting the best things to do in Alcudia and by suggesting the best days out from Alcudia.

Alcudia is so much more than sun and sand and it would be a shame for you to miss the beauty and the history of this stunning part of the island. Below we are going to highlight things to do in Alcudia and the best days to do them. If you like the look of something, click on the words in bold for more information.

What to do in Alcudia on SUNDAY:

  • Visit Alcudia Market (also possible on Tuesday), one of the oldest and biggest markets on the island, located in the old town of Alcudia behind the historic walls. Stroll through the pretty streets as you barter and buy, before settling down in the square for a refreshment stop while you enjoy the hustle and bustle from a spectators’ point of view. For how to get to Alcudia Market and for info, click on the name in bold.
  • If you do decide to go to Alcudia Market then we recommend a very typical snack and a glass of wine in either Sa Vermuteria (click for map) where to have a vermout and some tapas, or at Sa Cisterna (click for map) where try the local cheese, ham or sobrassada.
  • Remember on a Sunday many shops are closed in Mallorca so don’t plan your shopping trip to the capital on this day.
  • It’s not the best day to go to the beach either, as in the summer it’s the day that the locals all head to the beach and set up for the day with their families.
  • On Sunday (other days also available) you can do one of the classic tours from Alcudia: the Island Tour. This spectacular journey through the mountains by coach, boat, tram and wooden train (more than 100 years old) is sure to be one of the highlights of your holiday. And the best thing about doing the tour from Alcudia means that you get free time in both Sa Calobra and Puerto Soller.

What to do in Alcudia on MONDAY:

  • Monday is a great day to visit one of Alcudia’s little-known beaches. We recommend Es Coll Baix Beach, one of the most beautiful coves in the Mediterranean where the crystal-clear waters are irresistible. This beach can only be reached by sea or by a tricky walk down the rocks. If you consider this beach too inaccessible, try Aucanada Beach, where you can even walk out to the islet and lighthouse or San Joan Beach near Mal Pas.
  • Or spend a day topping up your tan at Alcudia’s very own water park the Hidropark. Relax and watch as the kids have the time of their live splashing and sliding.

What to do in Alcudia on TUESDAY:

  • Remember that as well as Sunday, Tuesday is market day in Alcudia. And if you are going to pay a visit to Alcudia Market, why not stop and soak up some history too at the Roman ruins of pollentia dating from 123BC? Here you can explore the most extensive Roman remains in the Balearics and learn about the time when this was the capital of Mallorca.
  • Another great option on a Tuesday is to take the glass bottom boat from any of the piers on the beach in Alcudia or directly from the port to Formentor, one of the island’s most exclusive beaches. On this four hour boat trip you will have tremendous views of the coastline and will get to spend an hour on the beach at Formentor.

What to do in Alcudia on WEDNESDAY:

  • For an adrenaline-filled adventure in Alcudia why not try either The Challenge, an action-packed treasure hunt with coast-trekking, snorkelling, kayak and marine caving, or the Alcudia speed-boat, a thrilling boat ride where speed is the name of the game, where you’ll bounce over the waves harder and higher each time.
  • Or for a more relaxing Wednesday, head to the Playa de Muro part of the main Alcudia beach, where the sand is whiter and the sea bluer than any other area and where you will have stunning view of the Bay of Alcudia.

What to do in Alcudia on THURSDAY:

  • Hire a bike and cycle to the Albufera: Alcudia’s natural park, where you can enjoy a ride around the flat cycle paths and stop at the bird watching huts. This is a stunning and peaceful area and you should definitely take a camera. If you are feeling lazy and cycling seems too much like hard work, take the public bus that runs frequently between Alcudia and Can Picafort.
  • For those with plenty of energy, visit Alcudia’s tourist capital: Bellevue, for an exhilarating go-karting session.
  • On a Thursday evening don’t miss the opportunity to visit Mallorca’s capital Palma on the Palma by Night tour from Alcudia, which only takes place on a Thursday. Enjoy the atmospheric old town of Palma with the cathedral all lit up before taking a stroll though Palma’s wonderful tapas area.

What to do in Alcudia on FRIDAY?

  • Take a rustic tour on the Rural Mallorca excursion from Alcudia taking in some real Mallorcan villages and small markets where you will participate in selecting products for lunch before being taken to an actual Mallorcan farmhouse where you will learn to prepare some traditional local dishes and enjoy a delicious barbecue with unlimited wine. This tour includes a visit to a real, working wine cellar where the people of the town buy their wine directly from the barrel.
  • Alternatively take a hike in the hills in the La Victoria area of Alcudia. You will need to drive or take a taxi to the starting point at the La Victoria chapel and from there you can follow any of the paths that take your fancy. Our recommendation is to walk to the Penya del Migdia (also known as Penya Roja) from where you have stunning views of the Bay of Pollensa and, if you climb up to the canon, of the Bay of Alcudia too.

What to do in Alcudia on SATURDAY:

  • Visit Mallorca’s capital city, Palma, and get some shopping done on one of the quietest days in the city. You can take the Palma Bus which runs from Alcudia every day and includes a sightseeing tour as well as free time in the city for shopping or sightseeing.
  • Or as something different, saddle up and do some horse riding in Alcudia with Ranxo Ses Roques based in Alcudia that offer great value for money sessions of one hour or two hours.
